Custom Power and Motion Electronics Design
Full custom design means new power or motion electronics, such as a custom motor controller, servo drive or power distribution unit, designed to your requirements. Redler Technologies engineers the hardware and software together and carries the project from consultation through prototyping and testing to production and long-term support.
This is the right route when no standard product can be adapted to the job.
When to choose this path
Choose full custom design when:
- no existing Rayon motor controller, Power Rider PDU or solid-state circuit breaker covers your power level, channel count or form factor;
- the job needs new circuit and PCB design, firmware written for your application, or a mechanical and thermal design for your enclosure;
- your program has MIL-STD requirements that you want designed in from the start;
- you want one supplier for design, prototyping and testing, production and lifecycle support.
If a standard product is close to what you need, a change to its interfaces, configuration or firmware may be quicker. See modified standard products.
What full custom design covers
Tailored hardware and software designed from the ground up, for defense, aerospace, robotics and industrial programs. The engineering work includes:
- Custom circuit and PCB design.
- Firmware and software development.
- Mechanical integration and thermal design.
- Component selection and optimization.
For reference, the published specifications of our standard Rayon motor controllers, Power Rider PDUs and solid-state circuit breakers are on the product pages. Browse the motor controllers, power distribution units and solid-state circuit breakers.
The custom design process
Four stages, from the first conversation to a product in service.
1.Consultation
We work with you to define the solution: a deep dive into your requirements, identification of challenges and constraints, definition of performance metrics, and a feasibility analysis. The result is a roadmap for the project.
2.Custom design
Our engineering team designs the hardware and software, including custom circuit and PCB design, firmware and software development, mechanical integration and thermal design, and component selection and optimization, to meet MIL-STD requirements where your program needs them.
3.Prototyping and testing
We build and test prototypes under real-world conditions, with rapid prototyping, environmental and stress testing, performance validation and EMI/RFI compliance checks.
4.Production and support
Quality-controlled production (ISO 9001), assembly and integration, final acceptance testing (ATP), and long-term maintenance and support.
The standards listed in each product's published data are on the Quality & Compliance page.
What to send us to start
A first message does not need to be complete. These inputs let our engineers judge scope and feasibility quickly:
- Function: what the unit must do in the system: motor control, power distribution, protection, or a combination.
- Supply voltage: nominal, minimum and maximum DC bus voltage, and any transients you expect.
- Current and power: continuous and peak current, per channel and in total, or motor power and peak torque demand.
- Interfaces: communication (CAN bus, CANopen, J1939, Ethernet, RS-232/422/485), I/O, motor feedback type, connectors.
- Environment: operating temperature range, shock and vibration, ingress protection, and corrosion or coating needs.
- Standards: the standards and revisions your program requires, for example MIL-STD-1275F, MIL-STD-461G or MIL-STD-810F, and any acceptance test (ATP) criteria.
- Size and weight: mounting envelope, weight limit and cooling method.
- Quantities: prototype and production quantities and the timeline you are working to.
